The Ponaganset Education Foundation

The mission of the Foundation is to foster student excellence, teacher creativity and school based-initiatives at the Ponaganset Schools.

We offer grants to classroom teachers for innovative projects that might not be able to be funded through the normal budgeting process. Sometimes, these grants are to complement other grants obtained by the teacher for a given project. This program was the original reason for forming the Ponaganset Education Foundation. It began with a donation, in cooperation with the Rhode Island Foundation. Each year, we offer grants from the interest earned on our investments with the Rhode Island Foundation.

We also administer the Ponaganset First Class Scholarship program. This program, which began with a large donation from Skip Battle, a member of the first graduating class from Ponaganset, provides scholarship opportunities to four-year schools for students who are the first member of their family to earn a college degree, who have financial need, and who have overcome adversity in their lives. Continuing support by Skip, by money that we raise through our annual Wine & Dine and the Ray Fogarty Memorial Golf Tournament, along with money from donors like you, allow us to continue to expand our scholarship opportunities.

In addition, we manage the Baker Scholarhip, which is funded through money donated by the Baker family and by people like you who donate specifically to the Baker Scholarship.
